Sperry Top-Sider owes its legacy to a furry, four-legged friend.
One chilly morning in 1935, founder Paul Sperry noticed that his cocker spaniel, Prince, was able to run effortlessly across an icy surface. After examining the dog's paws, he was inspired to create the first boat shoe for sailors, with siped soles to render them slip-resistant on a variety of wet surfaces—which is how the signature Sperry herringbone-pattern traction sole was born.
From the original Sperry Top-Sider boat shoe to high-heeled, waterproof boots for women, the company continues its time-honored tradition of innovation, providing comfort footwear for men, women, boys and girls alike.
