I have been a longtime fan of ECCO shoes and decided to give a similar pair of Naots a shot. I have always enjoyed their Birk-like sandals, so why not a dress shoe?
I wear a 9 typically, and a 42 in ECCO, and tried a 41 in the Naot based on the comments/sizing advice. The 41 was too small. The shoe rubbed on the top of my foot causing pain. Returned and had to buy the 42 in a different, reddish, color. Upon receiving it, I actually really like the color. It is very dark aside from some red highlight at the toe. I expect as the shoe gets more wear, the color may actually become brighter and more pronounced. Normally I stick with black but this works with a varietyof business casual attire.
So the bad news is the build of this shoe and comfort level. The 42, though I'm quite sure it's the right size, still rubs on the bone on top of my foot causing quite a bit of discomfort/pain. I am continuing to wear it in the hopes that some additional break-in will alleviate the issue. I have never experienced rubbing in that spot from numerous pairs of ECCOs or Dansko slip-ons, which I am also a fan of.
My only other complaint is that they used the same cork style material inside the shoe for the foot bed, so even though it's a slip on, it doesn't slip on easily. The cork material is a little sticky and causes the sock to bunch up. You kind of have to shove your foot in there. Works great in your sandals guys without socks, but not in a dress shoe. The inside needs a smoother material for sure!
My advice on this one would be to try it on and return it immediately if it doesn't feel comfortable and buy an ECCO. For the hefty price, I expected the same level of comfort.
I've owned Naots before and lusted after these clogs for some time. Only to be disappointed by the less-than-rugged finish to the Nubick (more dressy than it appeared) and the very, very small fit. Great footbed and sole, but hard to buy online—you need to try it in person.
I've owned Naots and think of them as well made compared to most Euro-styled shoes today. Unfortunately, the sizing is off—runs very short. And I found the Bjorn Nubick more dressy than rugged. Needs updating? Still, much better than 90% of clogs, if you want to pay for it.
This is my fifth pair of Naot shoes. My first pair was purchased prior to visiting the Philadelphia Flower Shoe which requires quite a bit of inside walking. Since that time I use Naot's for practically everything: walking my dogs (great traction on wet surfaces), shopping, appointments, etc. In short, I use them for practically everything. The tops are so well made that the soles wear out before the tops are ready to go. The shoes are not inexpensive; however, they are worth their cost. The value far exceeds the cost. Would be wonderful for anyone experiencing feet difficulties brought on by diabetes, neuropathy, etc.
Give them a try and your feet will serve you well. You know what they say about "Happpy Feet!:
