Thank you for playing. THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED !

**  **  **  **  **  **  **  **  **  **  **

We’ve got two golden tickets at Onlineshoes.com, thanks to Brooks! After the Seattle Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon and Half Marathon closed for entries earlier in the week (and the only way to enter now is by making a charitable donation to the American Cancer Society’s DetermiNation® Team), many runners have been left disappointed.

Now there’s hope. Brooks has generously given us two passes for free entry to the race—and we’re giving them away! How do you win these highly coveted passes (not to mention saving the $100 entry fee)? We simply want to know why you run.

To enter, you have the following options:

  1. Leave a comment below (200 words maximum) telling us why you run.
  2. Post a “Why I Run” article to  your own blog and give us a link in the comments below.
  3. Post a “Why I Run” YouTube video (2 minutes maximum) and give us a link in the comments below.
  4. Send a “Why I Run” tweet (must include @onlineshoes_com)

Better yet, post in all places for more chances to win!

The Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon and Half Marathon Entry Giveaway runs Friday, April 2, 2010 to Thursday, April 8, 2010 at 9 am PST. Two lucky readers of this blog will be randomly selected to win.

  • I run because it lifts my spirits. I run because it puts things into perspective. I run because it makes me happy. I run because it makes me feel strong. I run because it makes me feel grounded. I run because it reminds me I’m present. I am a better me – when I run.

  • I want to run with my two best friends. One coming from St Louis and the other San Diego. It’ll be my first 1/2 marathon. Ran the Ragnar Relay last year and became interested in the sport. Would love to accomplish this mental and physical tasks with my two best buds!

  • Why i run. I run slowly, almost as slow as a three toed sloth. I run to see the world that i miss when normal life is passing by. I run to see the little things in life, the neighbor working in his garden, the kids riding their bikes in the street. I run to live the life that others can’t. I run for a cure for brain cancer.

  • Why I run….hard question to answer. I am currently looking for a goal and had my eyes set on the Rock ‘n Roll 1/2 marathon. Needless to say it is sold out! I am not runner; I recently started training for a 1/2 marathon to get myself into shape and to give my kids a better role model. The Rock ‘n Roll Marathon was my goal for the summer. I would love to be able to meet my goal.

  • running is new to me and this will be my first half marathon. i quit smoking two years ago after smoking for 12 years, and followed a dream and became a massage therapist. i never thought i could run because my lungs would be on fire. i never thought i could be athletic. this is the the first time in my life i have approached my health and well being in a long term sense. doing a half marathon always seemed impossible. but i am starting to believe it is possible. i run and i feel like i am flying. i feel accountable to myself and my clients. i feel up. positive. like i am taking charge of my health. my self esteem has grown and i feel so filled with pride. and i am a very slow beginner. but i dont care! im doing something i never thought i could! running melts away my stress and challenges me to be better every single time. i really really want to do this for myself. this would mean a great deal to me.

  • I started running on dare. Then it turned into my stress relief. Now I run because I can and it makes me feel good. Running strengthens my body and builds my character.

  • I run because I was told that I wouldn’t be able to run again, after having two major back surgeries it is a personal accomplishment. I suffered for years with agonizing pain. I struggle daily to complete my runs but press on. I have never been a runner, this whole mind over matter is an accomplishment in itself. My sister ran the Mardi Gras 1/2 marathon and encouraged me to do so and my 65 year old mother is doing it to. The competitive side of me is not going to get surpassed by my mom though I am extremely proud of her for her health. I was never a runner but now find that I miss running on the days I don’t get to run. I use it as stress relief and have the best running companion in my dog ever.

  • I run because I love the way I feel when I am finished. My spirits, my body, and my heart is suddenly filled with energy and everything else in the world doesn’t seem half as bad! Running for a reason…(like finishing a marathon) gives you goals to reach for (during and along the way in training). It increases my motivation and trains me to apply those skills to other areas in my life (other hurdles) I want to conquer.

  • Running allows me to let go of everything that has stressed me up to that run. there’s nothing there except me blowin out the toxins that are stored up physically, mentally and spiritually. I’ve reached a momentary bliss that can’t be explained unless one experiences that runner’s high. And how awesome that high is, especially after reaching that “zone” or reaching the finish line. Plus w/ all the injuries I’ve had in my life it’s good to know that I’m still previlegded to be able to run.

  • I just started running March 1 in preparation for the Rock ‘n Roll. I needed external motivation and a goal for getting back into shape. I also am a nurse at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, so am doubling my commitment to fighting cancer.

  • Running allows me to eat and drink what I like. I run because it makes me happy and keeps me healthy physically and mentally. I run because I believe it makes me a better tennis player!

  • I run to remember who I am. The act of running grounds me and becomes an active meditation. I never run with headphones on – all of my awareness is focused on my body and breath. When I finish, my body, mind and spirit have all been worked out, and they all feel more alive than before I started!

  • I run when I’m happy.
    I run when I’m sad.
    I run when I’m stressed.
I run when I’m working through issues.
And running always makes me feel better. 30 years of running and I still feel it’s the best natural drug on the planet!!

  • My wife Mary Jo and I started running about 6 years ago. We have competed many 1/2 marathons together and recently ran our third marathon together. We also have a 1 year old border collie, Callie that loves to run with us. My wife’s cousin, Molly lives in Seattle and is going to run in the Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon, this will be her longest race yet. We had planned on entering the race but delayed entering when my wife’s sister Meg got diagnosed with lymphoma. Meg has started treatment and Mary Jo’s birthday is the day after the marathon and she would still love to run it with her cousin. This would be a great pick me up for Mary Jo and an excellent birthday gift. Run like an animal……

  • I run regularly to remain physically fit and reduce stress. It is a great outlet for me and I look forward to hitting the pavement, rain or shine. When I don’t for a day or two, I feel off. I participate in events as motivation, and sheer excitement. It is the payoff, the reward. Last year my son and I completed our first half marathon (he beat me :0) ), the Seattle Rock and Roll inagural. We had one of our best experiences and vowed to make it a tradition. I missed the ticket deadline as we recently moved and I am looking for a way to ensure we get to run again this year…

  • After battling weight issues for the past few years, I finally got the ball rolling in the right direction and dropped 45 pounds. One of my goals as was to be ready to run the Seattle Rock N’ Roll on my 35th birthday (That would be this one coming on June 26th). The one thing I procrastinated on was buying my entry….here is my chance to turn it around!!!….Please help me make it happen!!!
    Thank you SO MUCH!!!

  • Firstly, I run to keep healthy,to steam off stress and maintain my sanity, and most of all to enjoy the wonderful effects of being high on endorphins! Secondly, I have started a series of ten half marathons in honor of the best mother-in -law who is in her daily fight of the progressively fatal neurological condition called Lou Gehrig’s Disease or ALS. I’ll be on my 5th race if given the opportunity. Thirdly, to have a selection of Brooks running shoes the best footwear I’ve been turned on after over 15 years of marathoning.Thank you BROOKS for considering me for his award!
