Soles are weak.

I just double checked my order confirmation email which was sent to me on 7/23/18. It's now 01/31/19 and I'm disappointed. The soles have worn off all the "cleat" type rubber grip studs on the bottom exposing holes (through a criss-cross pattern of rubber) that lead to the foamy insert layers. I can't step in a quarter inch of water without my socks being wet for the rest of my shift. I'm a Security Supervisor for a Florida gated community and I invested in these boots only to have them last literally six months. As a side note, my job site is mainly vehicular patrols with minimal foot patrols so I honestly can't understand why the soles would wear out this fast. My last post had every site I worked as 100% foot patrols and I wore all black Adidas Superstar shell toe sneakers that lasted 3x as long. I still have those Superstars in my laundry room as grungy work shoes and there are no holes in the soles whatsoever. I just spent an hour trying to fill the holes in these boots with marine vinyl epoxy and crossing my fingers that it'll keep the water out when I go back to work tomorrow. As for the uppers? They're great! I did use some water proofing balm on them and I don't see any visible cracks. They took less than two weeks to break in and I never got a blister. The zippers do feel pretty weak and I'm always extremely careful when I use the zippers due to reading the reviews on this site. The zippers feel like they're going to come off in my hand every time I zip or unzip the boots. I don't wear the boots overly tight, but I can see someone who likes really tight footwear ripping the zippers off. I haven't had to replace the laces and they still look as new as the day I got the boots. I've been wearing these boots with generic walmart wool socks and I use a little anti athlete's foot powder spray on my feet before suiting up each day as a preventative measure and I never had an issue with wet socks after a shift. Until the holes in the soles were discovered I held these boots in high regard but now I'm wondering why I paid for a "jungle" boot that ended up letting all the water in.

Lightweight and breathable.

The Bates 8" cobra side zip boots are very light weight, and feel like gym shoes. I work in a temperature controlled environment and I was looking for a good pair of boots that would allow my feet to breath. These boots do just that. Very comfortable, and I am pleased with my purchase.

Bad Zipper

I've had a pair for about 3 months. The boots still look brand new except for the fact the my zipper broke as I was trying to put them on. I've worn various brands zippered boots for the last 8 years and have never had a pair break on me. I am very disappointed. The issue seems to come from how the zipper is threaded onto the boot. If leaves the thread very exposed to wear.

Remember when boots had no padding and hard canvas uppers ... Well, these are pretty much them .... If you wear heavy boot socks they are built tough, but to me I want comfort. I sent them back and bought the Tactical Sport version with padded uppers

Awesome boots. Good arch support, feet dry. Protection from Texas rocks and great on roof.

I had my first pair in 2002. Ive worn them hiking in the Grand Canyon, 15 + years dove hunting in all terrains, repairing my steep roof, and building fences. Feet stay dry, ankles supported, great traction. My boots fell apart after 16 years. Hurricane Michael hit our home in Florida and have worn them constantly for all wood cutting, roof repairs, and fencing repairs. Loved them. Soles came off but they have withstood the test of time and what I've put them thru. Just reordered. MJM
