This is a very beautiful boot, one that I wanted after a long search of the perfect boot for jeans, tucking in or out, with a high-enough but not too high heel, to wear in fall and winter. Though I had to go through some trial and error with this boot, it was well worth it. I am a 5'3", 46 yr old athletic woman who normally wears a size 8.5 medium in dress/casual shoes, but a 9 in running & athletic shoes.
The European size 39 has always been a perfect fit for me in dress shoes/boots because it corresponds to a length somewhere between an 8.5 and 9 American size. I ordered this boot in size 39 and found it much too small, even too narrow. I had to send it back for a size 40, realizing that 40 corresponds to almost TWO American sizes larger than what I normally wear. I really liked the boot, so I was hoped for the best.
When I tried on the 40, it fit length-wise very well with a little bit of room for my toes. It actually fit width-wise suprisingly snugly, leading me to conclude that this European-sized boot runs a litter bit narrower than what we are used to in American sizes. Personally, these fit me well with a thicker sock than a thin dress sock, but varying thicknesses of socks can be worn in them to adjust for snugness or looseness, depending on your preference. The heel is nice and flatters my figure, giving me a longer, leaner line, but since I am unaccustomed to wearing heels for extended periods of time, after a few hours in these boots, I look forward to getting home and putting my Crocs on.
The boot looks lovely on, not too youthful for my 46 years, yet still trendy and classy. The circumference allows me to tuck in skinny jeans & cords with ease, but boot-cut pants would fit easily over these boots, too. The color is gorgeous, with a very subtle tonal, gradient coloring from top arch to toe end. The straps extend a bit out from the boot in the rear, and the only reason this matters is that if you tend to sit with your heels tucked under your legs or hips, or seat for an extended period where one boot rests on top of the other and "folds" the end tip of the strap back on itself, then it could result in a small but temporary crimp in the strap.
I have worn these boots for hours while doing errands, shopping, visiting relatives, and to the movies. I have walked in them in nice weather, on rocky gravel as well as streets, when it was raining, and when it was below 40 degrees. In all circumstances, the boots kept my feet warm, dry, and cozy. I love these boots and think they are worth the money for how much wear I get out of them, but you will have to decide for yourself if their little details will work out for you. I give them four stars just because of the sizing issue, but five stars for everything else.
