I have been buying the WW84x line of woman's walking shoes for many years. Until this latest model in the line-up, they had given excellent motion control, while at the same time providing great shock absorbency. They are SL-2 fit, which is supposed to be narrow in the heel and wide in the toe - and until this new model they had been true to that promise. The new WW846 shoes are now tight in the toe box. They no longer offer superior cushioning/shock absorbency. And they have been downgraded from leather to vinyl which is far less comfortable and which is HOT. Just trying these on in my living room caused my feet to burn. The new narrow toe box irritated my little toes and I could tell they would cause blisters. (The previous models never even needed to be broken in.) I returned these and I called their customer service department. I understand that other customers are calling in to complain, but New Balance has no plans to go back to the older fit and finish. There is no longer a leather top of the line Made in USA woman's walking shoe in SL-2 fit. (I do not know if there is a good walker in any last any more.) I was told that there is less demand for walking shoes, so they put less emphasis on them. They recommended two running shoes which I have tried and which do not offer the same support as the old WW84x line. I ordered and tried two "outdoor" shoes which appeared supportive. CHEAP CHINESE FIT! They were awful. I am extremely disappointed at New Balance. New Balance was our last bastion of quality. Now we can only hope that they return to that quality - or that another shoe maker steps in to fill the void.
