The New Balance 990 sneaker is a classic workout essential, perfect for the serious runner. An update to the popular NB 990-993 styles, this women's sneaker features a leather and breathable mesh upper with ABZORB® cushioning for lasting comfort; an injection-molded EVA midsole offers underfoot support. Reflective details increase exposure in low-light conditions. The non-marking, full ground-contact Ndurance® rubber outsole of the New Balance W990 athletic shoe offers reliable traction with a herringbone tread pattern.
I own 2 pair of 993's which I love, so decided to try the 990's as they are the "new" 993's. My opinion is the 990's look a bit more sylish simply because they are somewhat narrower in the toes, but not enough to make them at all uncomfortable, still plenty of room. I have very painful midtarsal fault, both feet, from wearing cheap no arch shoes for years. These shoes allow me to walk my two miles each day with almost no pain and with no orthotics. Great shoes.
The New Balance 990 or 993 is the only T shoe I purchase. I have them in every color. When one pair wears out I use it for yard work and purchase a replacement.
My friends are hooked on them. Some of the people I know wear them all day and don't take theirs off until bedtime. Best shoe I have ever discovered. Wish I had known about New Balance a long time ago!
When the day's agenda is filled with errands, heavy-duty housework, lots of walking or time on my feet, these are the shoes of choice. Once I put these sneakers on my feet they are ready to get working. There is plenty of room for use with my orthotic arch support in the wide size. And they still feel pretty comfortable after 10 to 12 hours of active wearing. I have commented more than once that these are the most comfortable pair of sneakers I have ever owned. The only con is that they are also the most expensive sneakers I ever bought too. I wish they were a little less expensive.
I've returned a lot of shoes, but I love these! The extra wide width availability is much appreciated, and since gray is my color, these are an essential part of my wardrobe, whether exercising, or running errands. I'm not quite sure why they are pricier than other models, but am glad I stretched my budget to buy them.
