Merrell's wear like steel. This shoe has great support, is comfortable and I am sure will last a long, long time. I wear them for everyday use and always wear them if I will be walking on uneven surfaces.

Comments about Merrell Chameleon Arc GORE-TEX XCR:

Merrell was recommended by a friend when I said I had been looking hard but unsuccessfully for a good walking shoe for my November trip to Germany. An hour later, I tried them on and my feet felt like they had found a home. Sized up from my normal 10.5 to 11 with thick socks, they were the most comfortable shoe I had ever worn. I left the next day with neither time nor need for breaking in the shoes. In Germany, I walked miles and stood for hours in the cold rain, on cobblestoned streets and sidewalks in the city and in the country, on stone and gravel paths. My feet were perfectly dry and stable. An old injury to one foot that hobbles me periodically was never an issue. The shoes were on my feet unless I was sleeping or in the shower. They "made" my trip. Thank you.

Comments about Merrell Chameleon Arc GORE-TEX XCR:

Bought these in 2007. They are still wonderful shoes but have finally stopped being completely waterproof. They still have great support and actually still look great, but I've walked in enough wet fields and grass that they've cracked somewhere and let a little water in on one shoe on one side.
I will probably get another pair soon. Merrell is a brand I can rely on and enjoy the styling as well.

Every-day shoe, ran a little small for me so took next size larger, great feeling, toes never cramped, wonderful stability, feet don't get hot, nor do they feel the cold outdoors, I could wear it every day and wish I could find a dress shoe by Merrell that is just that comfortable!

Comments about Merrell Chameleon Arc GORE-TEX XCR:

I really liked the way these shoes look and wanted them to be awesome. They were however, disappointing in that they put top-down pressure on my big toe and part in the back dug into my Achilles tendon. Maybe they just run small? They were also a little bit stiff, but that could be because they were brand new.

I read the reviews and found out they run a little small so I ordered a half size bigger and they were perfect. I have problems with my feet and these shoes are light weight and feel great on.

Tapering toebox excludes wide feet
By 3 miles a dayVerified Buyer from Pacific Northwest on 8/5/2009
Pros:
Q-form
Cons:
Not Comfortable
Describe Yourself:
Recreational Walker/Hiker
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Merrell Chameleon Arc GORE-TEX XCR:

Merrell's Chameleon Arc is a step backward, compared to the Chameleon Wrap, Chameleon Web Leather, and their predecessors. It still has the excellent Q-form suspension system, which helps some of us avoid hip and knee pain (5 stars). But the tendency to taper the toebox makes the Arc quite painful (0 stars) for those who used to think the Chameleon was synonymous with comfort. Having worn size 9.5 and 10 in previous Chameleon models, had to order size 11 in the Arc and buy ultrathin socks to achieve enough room in the toebox. Of course, these adaptations aggravated plantar fasciitis and led to painful toes, so I returned the size 11 as well as sizes 10 and 10.5 ordered previously.

The Chameleon Arc is a painful disappointment. Merrell has a myriad of options for people with narrow and normal width feet; the Chameleon was a very special shoe for those who like a roomier feel. If Merrell does not introduce a wide version, they will be abandoning these loyal customers. Earlier versions were recommended by experts at a walking shoe shop to help with plantar fasciitis. The Arc has a much harder feel underfoot than previous years' models. This could be a problem for some people, but acceptable to those who have worn Finn Comfort or Mephisto walking shoes.

Service & Delivery comments:

As always, awesome customer service and delivery (10 stars for Onliineshoes).

Not as expected
By ngwVerified Buyer from Bradenton, FL on 8/2/2009
Cons:
Heavy, Not Comfortable
Best Uses:
All Weather Conditions
Describe Yourself:
Greenhouse worker, Recreational Walker/Hiker
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Merrell Chameleon Arc GORE-TEX XCR:

Wide toe box, but left shoe fit was poor. Edge of my foot was on the ridge of the foot bed.
I like the fact that it was a Gore-Tex product that would have kept my feet dry in wet greenhouse conditions.
