I wear a 6.5 in shoes and have a small, narrow foot with high arches. In dansko shoes (particularly the professional leathers) I find that I'm either in a 36 or 37. In these shoes though (I have the black box leather volley) I'm in a 36. And while my big toe is very close to the front of the shoe (but not touching it), these shoes feel very comfortable to me because the arch support hits my foot in the right place. The arch support in this shoe is not as pronounced as in the professional shoes, but it is still very much felt. The leather is very soft, but durable, and it stretches comfortably. The bottom support feels more like a tennis shoe (with arch support) than the traditional firm support found in the professionals. Back to sizing--I got this in a 36 and it feels great. In my professional cabrios, I wear a 37 narrow and in the patent leather professionals I wear a 36. I think in the leathers that are not so rigid, the 36s fit me fine. I think with the 37s I get more room in the toebox, but the arches don't "hit me" right -- making for a very uncomfortable experience. [...] it seems depending on the style of shoe the size you need may vary.
