Simple

Simple was created in 1991 by Eric Meyer, an irreverent young California art student who wanted comfortable, casual shoes that were also cool. When he couldn't find any footwear he liked in retail stores, he started looking in thrift stores. He liked the styles and comfort, but they didn't really fit correctly.

Eric realized that most of the comfortable shoes in the world come from just two areas: athletic shoes, which are usually styled after a particular sport and, therefore, too limiting. Secondly, comfort casuals that look like something only an eccentric philosophy professor might wear.

Deciding to create his own shoes, Eric put all of the "squishy, comfy parts into good old classic styles but then tweaked them a bit so they didn't look too normal".

For instance, one of the original Simple styles, the O.S. Sneaker, is definitely an American Classic and still one of the company's bestsellers and most imitated styles.

Simple shoes are designed and constructed to fill in the gap left by stereotypical old styles and cutting-edge fashion styles that aren't really wearable. Eric Meyer realized he was diving into uncharted waters, but insists that it's been "a fun exploratory place where success sometimes strikes in places you least expect".

Simple shoes are designed to fit a newer lifestyle as well as a newer mindset. They consider that their customers are people that want to make things better... do the right thing. They are changing the way the world works. They are the people who will bring us our future. They do not want to look like the next guy. They are individuals and, though they are aware of fashion and trends, they do not necessarily follow them.

Simple has been committed to leading the industry in sustainable innovation of footwear design and manufacturing since 2005. Simple’s three-tier rating system designates shoes by good, better, and best categories to identify the use of materials like recycled tires, organic cotton, water-based cements, hemp textiles, and PET (recycled plastic bottles) pedbeds, just to name a few.

Modern, classic, comfortable, casual shoes are the focus of the Simple brand with sneakers, sandals, casuals, and clog styles that all work in today's changing world.
