I have an outdoor job which involves a lot of walking, and frequently involves water. I bought these shoes a couple of months ago, my third pair of Goretex shoes (I was disappointed with the previous two), but these are TRULY waterproof. At the end of the day, my feet aren't pruned or stinky. These shoes provide support, comfort, waterproofness, and breathability! They are my dream work shoes. I'm thinking about buying a pair or two more, just in case Merrell decides to discontinue them.

Note: I usually waterproof every shoe I buy. But, when I read about Goretex, I learned that waterproofing is not necessary, and will actually hinder the performance. No need to waterproof this shoe!! They are like a duck--the water just rolls off.

I ordered these shoes 1/2 size larger as recommended and could not be happier. These shoes are great in Northwest Rain, icy days and on the hilly terrain that I walk my dogs on as well as on the beach.
After two years of painful plantar fascitis, these shoes have given me the support I need to be out walking again. What a delight. I end up wearing them all day long.
They have also proven themselves in the rugged terrain of the Rockies in Montana. What more can one ask for? To be able to keep up with two labradors is a joy everyday.

Good name, bad fit.
By RNhikerVerified Purchaser from South Central PA on 9/16/2007

Feels too narrow
Pros:
Non-slip sole, Stable
Cons:
Narrow in ball of foot
Best Uses:
Day hikes
Describe Yourself:
Casual/ Recreational
Bottom Line:

The shoe was short, and too narrow at ball of foot, causing pressure at the joint nearest the great toe. Too bad! The shoe was made well.
No half size after 10, so I was out of luck.
