I wore these day hiking in Rocky Mountains, Colorado. I bought a half size larger to accommodate thick wool socks; they are comfortable with good ankle support and traction. I hiked through light snow, icy patches and water puddles and my socks and feet stayed warm and dry. I didn't need much break in time before I wore them hiking (wore them around town casually first). I climbed up and over boulders and didn't get any blisters or skin chafing afterward. Love these!
Good feel on your feet. I had to go up a size to get a better fit.
The comfort of the Merrell shoes is incredible. It's like walking on a cushion of air. I have another pair of Merrells and they, too, are like walking on air. The cushioning Merrell uses is worth the investment, however, in the case of the Outland Mids, the design needs some help in that the straps on the outside push in on the small toes and create quite a bit of discomfort. I switched to the Pulse II by Merrell and love the boot. Same comfort. Same waterproofing. Same Merrell feel.
