I walk dogs and hiking out in New England and my feet keep getting soaking wet followed by very cold. These are water resistant, but NOT waterproof.
First of all, these are really warm boots! I take my dos for walks in 10 degree weather and they are really warm. I have just worn them in -11 weather and they are warm. The cons are that they are a little bulky, so they are somewhat difficult and heavy to walk in. However, they are built for cold weather and insulated, so that is to be expected. The are not uncomfortable, but I have problem feet and they tend to put my feet to sleep as I'm walking and leave my legs slightly sore afterwards. It is moderate discomfort and it is mostly because of my feet.
I wanted a boot that was of great quality for a trip to North Shore Drive in Minnesota skiing, hiking, and snowshoeing. I haven't taken that trip yet, but I live in the upper part of Minnesota and these boots are warm, supportive, and handle fantastic on the ice. We recently had a big melt that refroze and I took my dog on a walk with out slipping once. Great boots.
