Bring plenty of water when you hit the trail with these boots. They're very comfortable after hours of use, despite feeling indestructible regardless of the terrain. Merrell's seem to run 1/2 size small for me, as Keen's are too wide and short.
Can't recommend these boots more highly.
These are some comfortable boots and seem to keep the water out well
Got to love Gore-Tex!!!
I had a pair of these same boots before and they were just great. I have a lot of problems with my feet and these shoes give me the support I need to be on my feet all day. The only problem with the previous pair was that after many times of being wet they finally shrunk and I could not wear them anymore. I will try to dry this pair more carefully and hopefully avoid the shrinkage problem.
I bought these for a trip to Oregon and they turned out great! Matched with a pair of smart wool socks, I wore them while climbing Mt. McLaughlin (4,000 ft ascent/11 miles). Half of the trip was climbing rocky terrain. The soles gave awesome traction and were very stable. On the way down the toe guard was extremely useful when bumping against rock. I carried 30 lbs during the hike and the cushioning of the boots helped me to forget it was there. The best part was that I had no blisters. I am usually prone blisters during such a long trip on this kind of terrain.
Great fitting boot. I ordered 1/2 size up because my last pair of merrell's seemed a bit small, and it worked out great. The shape of this boot really hugs your foot, great arch support, firm through the laces, heel cup grabs my heel well, ample room around the ball of my foot and toes. I can wear thicker socks and still feel great in these boots. My only gripe with these is in the ankle area, not quite sure exactly what it is but the top of the boot seems to hit me in a sensitive spot of the ankle. I am sure it will not be a problem after a bit more wear.
Bottom line: Merrell knows how to make comfortable shoes.
This is my third pair of Merrells. All of them have fit my foot exceptionaly well. The first pair that I got in the mid 90's were the best though, they lasted about 5-yrs of almost daily wear. The 2nd pair only lasted a single year before the foot bed was crushed and they were falling apart. My last pair of boots were Keens , while they were comfortable, they only made it a year. I hope that this pair of Merrells is able to out last the last ones, it would be a shme to see Merrell got the path that so many other companies have (growing too fast and letting quality decline, while pricing continues to increase). Time will tell...
