This is my second hiking boot, but I know that it ranks near the top of other boots at the same price. I day hike on the weekends anywhere from 4 to 8 miles, but I know that it will perform just as well on longer overnight hikes. The terrain that I hike is in Arizona so it is mostly medium difficulty due to walking on protuding rocks.

I am really impressed with the light weight design and breathabilty while at the same time providing great ankle support. The sole is strong as well. I am able speed hike in them very comfortably. They almost feel like a durable pair of cushioned high top basketball shoes. I have not hiked in wet weather or gone through water in them. I have not hiked in them in cold weather either.

Overall, this is a great boot for the price. The only reason why I did not rate it 5 stars is because I have not hiked in the expensive boots yet and this is my second hiking boot. However, I will purchase it again and I strongly recommend it to others for general hiking.

It does feel a half size small. I wear an 8 running shoe and had to bump up to an 8.5.

Great product, have been on hikes up to 20 miles in a day with great results. Could use some additional cushion in the toe on declines of more than a 10% grade. Buy the shoe a half size larger for most people.

I put elastic shoelaces in these (as I do with all lace-ups I have) and they are a quick-on, good support, run-around/hiker. We have 2 big dogs that need lots of exercise and these are a valuable shoe for me while romping on wet grass or fast-walking on blacktop paths.
You can't beat Merrells for quality!

My first pair did have a 'squeak' on the left side whjch disappeared after about 6 months. The boot is soooo comforable and eliminates any sweaty feet issues that I will continue to buy them as long as they make them. My next pair will be the Moab Mid GORE-TEX? XCR?. They look much tougher and should hold up even better than my old Moab Ventilator Mid pair I've had for a few years now.

I use these for my work boots. They are a great summer time boot. They allow lots of air to your feet and are extremely comfortable. There are times that I think I am wearing tennis shoes until I need the extra durability of the sole. Great boot.
