I purchased the sandle to wear at the lake and for a future trip to Maui. The removable back strap is a great feature. With the back strap attached, the shoe is stable for walking up and down steep hills and over rocks. The straps make it easy to remove and adjust as needed. I generally wear a 8 1/2, the 8 is a great fit.

I have major foot problems and need orthotics. However, I am constanly on my feet and as I work standing (I do stain glass commissions) wanted a shoe that worked without having to put in the orthotics. These work and I've had my other pair now for over a year and still going strong. Just love them and can also walk in them with my dog if I get too lazy to get into my walking shoes that have the orthotics - also Merrells! I just don't like the velcro straps - my others are almost identical, but have a special clip - similar to a seat belt - that I prefer. I can't get the ones I had, but these new ones are just as good.

I have heel spurs, so I'm very picky about the shoes I wear. Most of the shoes in my closet are Merrells, as they are attractive, provide great support (the footbeds have a gentle arch instead of being flat), and are well made. This sandal is a winner because it is adjustible and convertible (the back strap is removable) and can be put in the washing machine to be thoroughly cleaned.
