No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Let me preface this by stating that I love Earth shoes.
They are the only brand I wear now, and most of their styles have been fantastic.
The Saualito was, sadly, the exception.
All shoes need to be "broken in" when they are new, but these were so stiff, and had such a harsh edge on the heel, they cut my skin (even through my socks) and caused a lot of discomfort.
I exchanged them for a pair of Energetic-K's (which I absolutely love) with in 2 days.
