Soles are long wearing. You don't have to worry about the weather. They withstand rain and some snow. Are comfortable to wear all day - walking and standing. Tie shoes enable you to wear thin socks in fine weather and heavier wool socks in winter. I can't wear most slipon shoes - they slip right off on me. Also, I have some mid size bunions. Not a problem with these shoes. Plenty of toe room and yet they are slim fitting in the heel and arch areas. The bones on top of my foot are high - another reason why I need tie shoes. And - in too many other brands and in one style of Ecco, the tongue immediately shifts over. In these shoes and the Ecco Soft V. the tongue stays in place. Only complaint was the inside lining of Ecco Soft V wearing a quarter size hole. I had to patch it to avoid ruining my socks. I wish Ecco would improve this lining material. Perhaps they have already. I have a Soft V pair in natural that are okay so far.
