I bought this jacket to use as both a top layer for outdoor activities on milder days as well as for layering for colder days/skiing. While I have not used it for skiing yet, it works great as the top layer for a quick trip to the gym. I love the thumb holes to keep the sleeve down and they do not cut into your fingers like some other thumb holes do.

I use this jacket for all kinds of weather. It's great in the fall and winter but just thin enough to warm you on breezy summer days or cool summer nights. I use it if I travel as well because it works for anything. My only complaint is you can't easily push the sleeves up because the sleeves are a little more fitted at the wrist.
