Nearly all of my shoes are New Balance. I have bought them for years and they have been excellent. This is the first pair of New Balance shoes I could not wear. There are three issues I have with these shoes:
1) The sizing is way too short. My toes hit the end of the shoes just standing in them.
2) My best walking shoes from New Balance are the 955's which were sold as a country walker. I also have a couple pair of 928 walking shoes which are more comfortable than the 955's due to their deeper toe box, but they do not offer as much support or protection as the 955 for walking on rougher terrain. I bought this pair to replace the 955's since I noticed that the last they are made from offers a deeper toe box and they are marketed as both a walking shoe and a hiking shoe. But compared to the 955, these shoes have no where near the support. They perform more like a light tennis shoe and not at all like a hiking shoe. The shank and support of the 955 are totally missing. They are even less supportive than the 928's.
3) The workmanship of the shoes is very poor compared to all my other New Balance shoes. Two of the top four lacing hooks, which are placed on the cuff of the shoe, stick under the leather to which the cuff is stitched. This makes it very difficult to lace the shoes. One has to put their fingers inside the shoe and push the cuff outwards to expose the hook in order to lace the shoes.
Overall, this is a very disappointing shoe.
