Comments about Merrell Sidestep:

After buying my first Merrells, the Radius, I wanted another pair to work out in. I have been wearing the Radius regularly for over one year now. Very comfortable and well made. I ordered the Sidestep in the same size and they also have a very good fit. They seem to be made with the same quality, but seem to have better support. They also breath better, which was my biggest problem with the Radius. They also have a closer fit than the Radius with less room in the toe box. That may explain soom of the extra support I am feeling. They are also about 5oz lighter than the Radius if that matters. The heal design of the sole does not make the Sidestep a good choice for walking on hard flat surfaces, like concrete, in my opinion. It's hard to explain until you try it. Also, like the Radius, the insert is junk. But that is OK as it was replaced as usual with one I liked before I ever wore them. That's where the arch support and the cushioning comes from for me. As with the Radius, my shoe laces are always coming untied unless I really crank down on it, which does fix the problem.

Comments about Merrell Sidestep:

The Sidestep is an interesting shoe and marks a new era for Merrell. Like many of its new models of the last year or so, this shoe runs about a half size small. It's is a truly technical shoe and not as versatile as previous models. It's solid on grass, hard pack, loose gravel and just about any trail not made of city pavement. The under slung heel is not well suited for the sidewalk, but then again it's designed as a trail running shoe, and there it excels!

Comments about Merrell Sidestep:

I have owned several pairs of merrells footwear and have been happy with them all except these. I bought these shoes for trail running. I thought that merrell would have the best ones since they have a good reputation. These shoes feel to narrow for trail runners and the inner sole is to hard. The outer sole is hard which is a good thing with trail shoes.

Comments about Merrell Sidestep:

I actually bought these to wear during my 12 hour shifts as a nurse. I like to cycle between two different pairs of shoes to decrease the wear and tear on one pair. I am actually considering buying a second pair now of this shoe just to wear when I workout or want to run around, etc. The shoe is extremely comfortable and looks great too! My only con is that the shoe tends to get a little warm inside after 12 hours, but what shoe doesn't get hot after 12 hours..it's expected. I guess until someone invents air conditioned shoes or something. Anyway, a great buy, very comfortable, and I haven't seen any signs of wear..I actually swore I wouldn't wear these outside of the hospital, but I broke my promise and wore them on a hike through Blanchard Caverns a few weeks ago..they performed like a $500 pair of hiking boots on those slick cavern floors.. A MUST BUY!!
