I love the metatarsal support of Birkenstock sandals. These shoes are great slip-on shoes when colder weather prohibits sandal wear.

My mother resisted birkies when I recommended them years ago. I loved my Arizonas but she thought they were "ugly". The next year she announced that a friend had given her the perfect sandals - so comfortable and attractive. YES! Birkenstocks!....but not Arizonas. For over twenty years now, these are the only shoes she feels fit her feet and she has about ten different pairs of the sandals since she spent most her time in Florida...Now that she has moved to Maine and she feels she needs something more wintery because the sandals, even with socks, didn't look appropriate. Hence, her first pair of Bostons at the age of 90!! Some conversions take longer than others.....

I have plantar fasciitis and very few shoes are comfortable for me without adding an orthotic. So, with some trepidation I tried Birk's. I am so glad I went beyond the look of the shoe. While it's not the most fashionable, I am thrilled at the comfort I have with these shoes. The foot bed is molded with its own arch support. I can wear them all day and not have heel and arch pain. Order your regular size. At first they might feel big but your feet will fit the molded foot bed perfectly. I want to try the soft bed Birk's next. (For pf sufferers I have good luck with Dansko and Sanita.)

Birkenstock Boston's may not be sexy, but they are comfortable. at 7 months pregnant, these are my go-to shoes (it's that or Uggs, or trainers). I even got a compliment from a non-granola guy at a party last week! My husband tolerates these, and better yet, so do my feet. Highly recommended--this is my second pair.
