Not sure if this is even wide ENOUGH.

I have been a Birks wearer since about about the 1980's and normally I do not have an issue with sandals marked as "regular". However (and I have seen reviews that attest to this) the heel cup and maybe the footbed are not as wide as they could be or not as wide as other sandals. The problem is I have flat feet. This used to be called fallen arches and in a sneaker, I could wear a 4E (4x) easily. My feet spread out and flatten down and my instep is high and Birks are the only thing I can wear. Normally, my only solution is to wear thongs or sandals that are open, so my feet can spread out all they want, but one of my podiatrists insisted I need something with a deep footbed and heelcup (like Birks) to compensate. I tried these on right away and felt the sides of the footbed creeping up to meet my foot and the edges were actually UNDER my foot, so these will not do. I was disappointed, because they look good, but they won't work for me, because I suspect the footbed will not flatten/stretch out enough in the long run.

I purchased a pair of Bostons and loved them, so I thought I'd go with a Birkenstock sandal for summer. These featured the same awesome footbed and a stylish design. The problem is the edge of the leather has rubbed the skin on my third and fourth toes right off. Now it is uncomfortable to wear them. I am hoping that either tightening of loosening the front strap will alleviate the problem because I cannot return them now. If not, I'm out [$].

I have flat feet and these sandals make my feet feel great and give me relief from plantars faciatis. For guys wondering about sizing, they run almost 2 sizes large, as I wear a 9 2E in New Balance, but wear a 40 (7-7 1/2) in these. Well made sandals that look great and after a short break in period, feel even better! Worth every penny
