Zero drop meets cushioning in the Altra Torin 1.5 running shoe. Built on a level platform, this men's trainer encourages an efficient stride, while a wide toebox and foot-shaped fit allow for natural toe splay. Underneath, a padded midsole absorbs impact and keeps you protected from the road so you can log those long miles. The two-layer EVA and AltraBound™ midsole absorbs shock with every footfall. Working in conjunction with the Zero Drop™ platform and Natural Ride System™, the foot-shaped toe box allows room for toes to splay naturally, enabling a more powerful push-off and greater feel of the terrain. The Altra Torin 1.5 athletic shoe is finished with a blown rubber FootPod™ outsole for sure traction, wherever your workout takes you.

addendum to my previous post

Altra does make trail runners with better traction. But these Torin's which I had used to hike in are horrible, almost dangerous due to lack of traction. I have to stay on the road with these shoes. However as mentioned before, the fit is great for my wide feet.

great fit

The fit of Altra's is perfect for my wide foot. I like to be able to splay my toes and need a roomy toebox. The only downside to these shoes is off-road, the traction is nil and I've slipped several times on inclines/declines. Wish they would make soles with traction.

Comfy

A good shoe for walking. Wide toe box may take getting used to. They run a bit big.

Running and Walking shoe

I am a racewalker and runner and this shoe works very well for both sports. I can use it in training or on the track and it feels light enough, but still has good cushioning for longer runs. The shoe appears to be better for runs under 10 miles, as I noticed a little tenderness in the half marathon distance. Occassionally, I use the shoe for casual wear, so I have two pairs and it is a very comfortable shoe to wear during the day.

Nice idea, but not that wide in forefoot

Nice concept with the design of the shoe; specifically, more in the shape of the foot, which was designed to allow more room in the forefoot. However, these shoes were way too tight for me. If you need a wide shoe because of a bunion, a taylor's bunion, bone spur, or a high instep, then these probably will not give you the relief you seek. I have a screw on the outside of my left foot, and have high insteps. My feet measure 12 M, but I have found some of the new balance shoes with the SL2 lasts give me the best relief and comfort. I really like the design/concept of these shoes, but they were just too tight. When compared to the NB MR1012 or NB 840 running shoes, the NB shoes were approx a 1/2 inch wider.

Feels too narrow
Bottom line:
NO, I would not recommend this to a friend
