Before You Buy
  • Recheck your size. Most people's feet will flatten and get longer as they get older.
        An easy way to see if your feet have changed is to put on a recently purchased
        pair of shoes. If the shoe feels tight, it might be time to buy a half-size larger.
  • Size for your bigger foot. Yep, most of us have one foot that's larger in size
        than the other. It's a good rule of thumb to fit the shoes to your larger foot, as a shoe
        that's too small is much more likely to cause serious problems than one that's too loose.
  • Know that shoe sizes may not be universal. While most sizes will remain consistent
    •     within a single brand (a size 10 Merrell Jungle Moc will be equal to a size 10 Merrell Encore),
        sizes between brands could vary up to one full size due to manufacturing quirks and designs.
        However, we make it easy to tell if you need a different size by reading our product reviews to
        see if our customers recommend going up or down a size in that particular style.
    When They Arrive
  • Choose the right socks. Slip on the socks you'll typically wear in your new shoes, as sock thickness
        can make a huge difference in the fit of your new shoes.
  • Try, try again. Because your feet will expand slightly during the day, try on your shoes at different times
        throughout the day to ensure they'll be comfortable from dawn to dusk.
  • Get some toe room. Allow about a finger's width (about 3/8" to 1/2") of room between your longest toe
        and the end of the shoe. You never want shoes that are too short or snug in the toe area so leave some
        wiggle room.
  • Align the ball of the foot. The ball of your foot should sit at the widest part of the shoe, where it's designed
        to flex. Try walking in the shoe on carpet to make sure it fits without pressure to the front of the foot.
  • Secure your heel. While your heel may move slightly in shoes right out of the box, excessive heel slippage
        is a sign of an improper fit.
  • Don't expect them to stretch. If the shoes are a little tight now, it's unlikely they'll stretch out over time.
        You want to be comfortable from the first step.
