Resolve to Walk: Week #3

Step out with Peter, Onlineshoes.com’s Executive Family Man, as he walks to better health.

So, here’s my mid week update! You can probably tell by the fact that this blog is late that I don’t have stellar news. The good news is that I have been running on the weekends with my daughter in the running stroller, etc. And I have gotten out for a couple of walks. The bad news is that the literal meaning of “couple” is two. So I have not been reaching my goal of walking three times a week.

May I moan? The dark Seattle weather can be somewhat of a challenge to motivation and it’s been raining a ton here. But today I got out in my The North Face Denali jacket with rain protection and headed out—wind in face but feet dry in my walking shoes. I was happy to get out to the fresh air for a bit. I was able to pick up a healthy lunch on the walk as well and bring it back in time.

The real trick to keeping on this resolution will be getting others to walk with me. I will be reaching out to my co-workers to get them involved. Certainly, there must be a few folks out there who would benefit as I am. Maybe I have to get them some good shoes to get the ball rolling!

Does anyone have any tips on how to get my co-workers to come along for the ride? Something other than bribing with brownies and cupcakes would be welcome.

Until I post again… Walk on my blog followers! Walk on!

By Peter L. Newborn twins, a toddler, two pugs, one busy wife and a more than full-time job as Onlineshoes.com’s Chief Marketing Officer has Peter moving on all cylinders. Unfortunately, none of that energy is spent working out. Peter resolves to make time for himself and his health this coming year by stepping out of his busy routine to walk himself back to fit.

  • Two is better than one, or none! Keep it up, Peter.

  • Free shoes would do the trick I’m sure!

  • I say block out in your calendar a period to sneak in a 15- to 20-minute walk three times a week — doesn’t have to be the SAME three times/days, but make sure it’s three. Set the reminder at the beginning of the designated day(s) (so you can schedule around meetings or appointments), and when it goes off, get up from the desk and walk. Circumnavigate the office 10 times if the weather outside is particularly abysmal. Think of it as therapy for brain as well as body. People who work on computers are supposed to adhere to the 20/20/20 rule: every 20 minutes we should look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. Walking? Same kinda thing.
