Giveaway: Saucony Minimalist Running Shoes

Thank you for playing. THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED !

**  **  **  **  **  **  **  **  **  **  **

If running had a user manual, it’d be pretty short:

  1. Place left foot in front of right and step forward.
  2. Place right foot in front of left and step forward.
  3. Repeat.

Sure, sure, that’s walking, but running is just walking fast enough that you eventually pick up both feet at the same time, right?

If only running was as easy as that. Gear, weather, time, fitness and all that other noise aside, you need to be motivated to run.

I don’t know about you, but being the good, red-blooded American that I am, nothing motivates me more than rock ‘n’ roll.  Give me fast tempo percussion, power chord infused guitar and some soulful wails and I’ll squeak out 3-4 miles before I even realize I’m dripping sweat and enjoying it.

You feel me?  Because if you do, I want to know about it—and OnlineShoes.com and Saucony are willing to put some free minimalist running shoes on the line to verify my sanity (or, dispute it).

In the comment section below, let me know what one song motivates you to get out and run.  I’m talking really motivates you; the kind of song that will have you running through snowdrifts, 120 degree heat, while away on business travel or at 5:30am on a Tuesday.

Two lucky, musically-motivated runners will be rewarded with a pair of Saucony Minimalist shoes of their choice.  Just make sure to enter before midnight, PDT on June 6th, 2011.

Rock on and run!

***UPDATE*** 06/06/2011

The giveaway is now closed and the winners are:

1.  katie picklesimer

“When I’m sad when I’m down..
there’s a certain song that brings me around.
It’s upbeat and sweet..
brings me to my feet..
each time I hear that 80′s tune.
I probably look like a loon..
dancing and singing on the treadmill at the gym..or outdoor running mile after mile..
What’s the song you say that makes me smile?
It’s Walking on the Sunshine…and it would be awhile..
more like an eternity before I ever got tired of that song.
I bet you know the words, so sing along..
next time you are blue..”

2. Wayne “Fly Like An Eagle, Steve Miller Band motivates me.”

Congratulations! Thanks to everyone for your inspiring submissions and make sure to check back with the OnlineShoes Blog, we’ve got other exciting things planned on the calendar!

Makes me think of how sometimes you can only prove yourself one time, and how somedays you just need to suck it up and fight through the pain/exhaustion/fear, because when you do, sometimes you find something awesome on the other side of the struggle.

  • For some reason Charlie Daniel’s The Devil Went down to Goergia and the B52′s Love Shack both have the power to really get me motivated! I think the key is diversity in your playlist.

—By SusanPringle on May 28, 2011 at 2:45 pm
  • After submitting my last comment I wondered what year those songs were released. Actually, The Charlie Daniel’s Band released their album with the Devil Went Down to Georgia in 1979 and the B52′s released Love Shack in 1989. So…it seems appropriate to continue the pattern and mention songs that inspire me from 1999 – American Women by Lenny Kravitz and Soul Sister byt Train from 2009. Yes, I really want the shoes, seriously.

Am actually reading Born to Run by Christopher McDougall and am on page 175 where they make their case for barefoot or minimalist foot protection for running. I have run 4 marathons and many shorter races. I think there is real merit to a shoe that offers less cushioning.
“this girl really does deserve new shoes…” (subconscious reader thought)

I will think about any appropriate songs from 1959 and 1969. Once again, diversity in your playlist is the key!

—By SusanPringle on May 28, 2011 at 3:08 pm
  • My running songs also need to be uptempo to get me moving. I also like lyrics that motivate me. My favorite running song is by Cake – The Distance. I really like the beat of the song plus the lyrics talk about going the distance – going for speed. It’s a great running song, it makes me want to run further and faster!

  • “Eye of the Tiger” has to be one of the best running songs.

—By joshuathorison on May 29, 2011 at 1:00 pm
  • One song that ALWAYS gets me motivate to get out the door no matter the weather is Journey’s Don’t Stop Believing. The chorus “don’t stop believin, hold on to that feelin” reminds me of that runners high and get’s me motivated. I love when I’m running a race and it comes on when I really need a burst of energy.
It became my go to song after I had an injury, I set out for a run with no mileage in mind just wanted to see how the knee felt, I ran 7 miles that day with no pain.
    Run. Dream. Believe!

  • I love “Strawberry Avalanche” by Owl City. It reminds me of an astounding display of Northern Lights back in 2001, I believe. I lived in central Minnesota at the time, and coming home one night I caught a glimpse of red waves of light, sheeting across the sky. Ethereal, translucent, yet deep red like succulent fruit. I found a spot to sit outside and stare up at the beauty happening above me. The song “Strawberry Avalanche” brings me back to that place of wonder, and the energy in the music inspires me to run, breathe deeply of crisp, clean air, and enjoy the beauty of creation.

  • I can’t help but run FAST when I hear “Baby I Like IT!!!! I..I..I…like it!!!” Baby, I Like It by Enrique Iglesias featuring PittBull~! It is just a fast, upbeat song and when the miles get rough and I hear “Baby I like it, I like it!! Come on and give me some more!” I can’t help but keep running! The mind is powerful and you can’t help but think it is awesome to be running in 100 degree temps with 98% humidity when you are singing those lyrics to yourself!
