The moment you know you’re a man isn’t your bar mitzvah or when your first chest hair pops out. Nope, it’s when you slip your little piggies into a quarter-inch of thick steel.
Yep, I’m talking about steel-toe boots. When you first slip them on, a rush of adrenaline flows over you. A feeling of power, of destiny, of invincibility. Rogue nail gun on the job site? Don’t worry, your toes are safe as kittens. Feet backed over by your nephew’s car? A mere bump in the road. Four-alarm fire? Well, maybe you should run…but in these gleaming beauties you’ll run in style without a second though about stubbing your toe in the smoke-clouded room.
Simply put, with the mere exception of a tool belt and Fonzie’s leather jacket, there’s just nothing in God’s green Earth that says the word “man” more succinctly than a pair of steel-toed boots. Slip on a pair and your voice dips a little deeper, your chest puffs out a little further, and your step will get a little bit lighter…metaphorically speaking, cause face it, you’re now wearing steel.
That, my friends, is why no closet (okay, that one lone shelf in the closet that your significant other has graciously “donated” to you) is complete without a pair of steel-toe boots from Dr. Martens, Caterpillar, Carhartt, Wolverine…excuse me, I suddenly have the need to find the nearest construction site and drop something heavy on my feet.
