When the going gets tough, the tough get…a great pair of outdoor sandals.
I know what you’re gonna say: Sandals have always been more comfortable for beaches, picnics, and gladiator matches. But not anymore. Now they’re perfect for trails, mountains, waterways, forests, jungles…and, yes, still a gladiator match or two. But the best part? They’re from the brands you already love for heading outside in.
KEEN SANDALS
I can describe why these are one of my favorite all-around sandals in two words: toe protection. No more stubbing my toes on tree roots that come out of nowhere or even those parts of a boat which I still don’t know the names of. Get KEEN sandals. Your toes will love you.
CHACO SANDALS
The one thing you learn out in the wild is the need to adjust…and Chaco sandals do just that. I can perfectly adjust the straps for kicking back on the deck or taking on class 3 whitewater—I swear there’s almost no better fit. There’s also wet/dry traction and an amazing footbed, but really, it had me at adjustable.
TEVA SANDALS
My goldfish Meredith doesn’t spend as much time in the water as I do in my Teva sandals. With non-slip soles, quick-dry outsoles and more technology than NASA, these amphibious sandals are more fun that you had as a kid splashing in the tub. Even with the scuba G.I. Joe figure.
MERRELL SANDALS
My Grandfather’s marine platoon isn’t as tough as Merrell sandals. Whether I storm the beach or the trailhead, these soldiers always keep my feet in place…and, truth be told, the hiking sandals are pretty darn comfy to cushion my tootsies.
But don’t take my word for it. Try out a pair of your own outdoor sandals and hiking sandals and let your feet go wild.
