**  **  **  **  **  **  **  **  **  **  **

We’re all pulled in a million directions every day, and what we really need is some balance.  Work AND play.  Friends AND  family.  Happily, there’s Ahnu, a footwear brand that embraces and celebrates balance.

The name “Ahnu”  comes from the Celtic goddess of balance and well-being.  With that inspiration, Ahnu is now a leader in outdoor performance and lifestyle shoes.  Whether you’re running on the trail, getting in a quick hike after work, or standing on the sidelines at a soccer game, Ahnu brings a clever element of fashion to even the most rugged styles.

Committed to true performance, Ahnu has developed the Neutral Positioning Technology to encourage your foot’s natural biomechanics.  It is designed to center and guide the foot to promote an efficient, stable and balanced stride. By carefully choosing materials and positioning the components, Ahnu gives each shoe with Neutral Positioning System technology just the right amount of structure to respond to the stresses of their specific activities.  You’ll find a version of this technology in the men’s Firetrail and men’s Moraga Mesh as well as the women’s Shasta, Rockridge, Benecia II and Paris. From trail to pavement, Ahnu has the perfect style for you.

Want to experience the technology, style and comfort of Ahnu for yourself? Just leave a comment below (200 word maximum), telling us how you achieve balance in your life. Five readers will win a pair of Ahnu shoes.

The Ahnu Shoe Giveaway runs from March 30, 2010 to April 12, 2010.

  • I find balance in my life by NOT trying to find balance or “normal” my “balance” is…ME,and living MY life by my own rules, that anything I feel good about…IS good for ME! So if I feel like eating chocolate all day…I DO! Because working out is good for me,BUT SO IS CHOCOLATE! I have lost 84 pounds living by this rule and am well on my way to reaching my goal!

  • I achieve balance in my life by taking care of what needs to be done first and being productive, such as with work and exercise. And when all of that is done, I always make sure to have a little fun by getting outside, dining at a restaurant, or taking a little trip.

  • I get up 30 minutes earlier than I have to, assuring some quiet time to myself every day. Eating right and exercise are important for well-being, but staying balanced means not becoming obsessed with either. Spending time in nature also helps me stay centered and refreshes my focus, no matter how crazy the rest of my life may be.

  • I find balance in my life by not trying to pay attention to what other’s tell me to do.

  • I’ve learned that balance is saying “no” to things at the right times, whatever they may be. Sometimes those things are not so good or things that you don’t like to do which makes it an easy decision. But sometimes there are those things that are good and the decision is harder to make. Don’t be afraid to say no when you need to, its harder to achieve true balance when you’re spread too thin…!

  • I find balance in life by adding physical fitness and volunteering to my worklife. We all know the benefits of exercise. The feeling you get from volunteering is very rewarding, too.

—By Jeremy C on March 31, 2010 at 9:30 am
  • About 10 years ago I decided I’d try to run or otherwise exercise at least an hour a day, as a lifetime goal. Although I had always been active before that, I tended to have ups and downs, according to whatever else was going on. I know this single decision has led to more consistent balance in my work, health, and social life. An hour’s a lot of time, but on the long term I don’t really think it is. It’s often my happiest hour of the day, and even when not (e.g. bad conditions outside, personal fatigue), there is value in the discipline of it all.

I have a four-year-old, a three-year-old, and a two-year-old, and I am one of those people who could easily let stress overrun my life if I let it. But I achieve balance by letting some things go, eating well, exercising, laughing, and sleeping. Progress not perfection as they say…

  • Very cute shoes! I try to keep my life balanced in reference to work, and the different relationships I have. I restrict myself from working too much overtime, so that I make sure I have relaxing and fun time. I also make sure I keep in touch with my friends and family, and try to prevent spending a lot more time with certain people as compared to others.

  • I keep balance in my life, by setting Sunday aside for going to church and being with my family. I don’t exercise, work, go shopping or do many of the other things that take up my time during the other six days of the week. Separating Sunday from the other days gives my week a beginning and an end. When my life has gotten out of balance during the past week, Sunday is like a reset button. I use the extra time I have on Sunday to refocus my priorities for the coming week.

Even though he can’t do much we go for a short walk every day. We eat as healthy as possible. I encourage learning every day to keep our minds active. I also, try to help my neighbors as much as possible because I believe giving to others is the best gift you can give yourself.

  • Well, balance is something I do NOT have! Physically as well as emotionally. But I’m 82+ years old and married almost 61 years, and I think I’m still doing OK. I keep VERY busy, doing volunteer work, and trying to brighten other people’s lives a bit. I love my husband more each day, as I realize that our days are numbered. MAYBE we may live to be 100, but there are no promises. I have God on my side and that gives me the peace I need to keep on going.

  • I don’t have balance in my life. I TRY, but can’t get there. If I lived in a vacuum, I would say that I am organized and efficient and that helps me achieve balance. But I have 2 kids and a husband who always need things at the last minute and keep me constantly off-balance. This isn’t a complaint…. well… maybe not when it comes to the two who are going to leave someday :-) It’s just a fact of life.

—By barbarawr on April 12, 2010 at 7:23 am
  • First and foremost I try not to stress about anything I cannot control. Then I make a list of things that I need to get done. I feel a little more in order when I have lists. Then I make sure that I have my husband help out as much as possible. I also like to plan ahead on anything that I possibly can. I have 2 kids that are 2 and 10 months so sometimes things don’t go as planned but I have been able to make sure that we have a routine around our house and it helps out a lot.

—By Summer on April 12, 2010 at 7:47 am

  • I always strive to maintain balance between work and play, family time and alone time, self-control and indulgence, and physical activity and rest. I have had to compromise slightly on all fronts — getting a half hour less of sleep, working out 15 minutes less than I would ideally, and skipping out on overtime at work to see my family and friends, but in the end the give-and-take are absolutely worthwhile, because it allows me to enjoy all aspects of my life. Thank you!
