I have a new love…named “Baggallini.”
No, it’s not the suave Italian waiter at my favorite bistro (whose name is Fabio – I kid you not. I have to refrain from making Parkay and goose jokes whenever I see him), but a line of fabulous all-season, go-anywhere bags, totes, clutches and travel pieces.
I confess, I’m one of those people (okay, “women”) who feels you can’t have too many earrings, lipsticks, shoes or handbags. Too little storage space, yes; too many, no. And let’s be honest, the beauty of purses is they’re one-size-fits-all. A perfect fit, every time.
Baggallinis have everything going for them. They:
- come in a ridiculously wide range of styles, sizes, prints and colors
- are made from durable, fade-resistant, water-resistant nylon fabrics
- are great for year-round use
- are fully lined
- are lighter-weight than their leather equivalents
- hold an amazing amount of stuff
- offer incredible organization, inside and out
- are so affordable you can own several and not feel guilty. Not one bit.
It’s hard to play favorites, but right now I’m digging the Downtown Bagg:

the Uptown Bagg:

and, the Shanghai Satchel:

On the days when I need to carry a lot and keep my hands free, I use the Downtown Bagg, which can be worn as a sling or backpack (thanks to the zippered strap), or can be carried via its top handle: it’s like having multiple bags in one! (With leather trim it’s not vegan-friendly, but I still feel better than if I’m toting an all-leather handbag.) Two-way zippers make for easy access, and I love the detachable coin purse.
The Uptown Bagg is my favorite for travel, because I can wear it cross-body and, again, keep hands free. The cell phone pocket on the strap couldn’t be more convenient. It also has a coin purse, but this one is detachable on both ends so you can turn it into a wristlet when you really want to pare down.
For a more polished, professional look, the Shanghai Satchel is just the ticket. It features padded shoulder straps for comfort, handsome silver- or gold-tone details, secure, easy-access zip pockets on the front; the cherished detachable wristlet, and is roomy enough to transport a small, willing pooch.
What can I say? A new Baggallini handbag brightens my day like sunshine and a tall, cool drink with an umbrella and a maraschino cherry. Go on. You deserve it. I’m pretty sure I do…

Well, you hooked me with this shanghai satchel. I usually only order leather bags because I know they’ll last. How sturdy is the shanghai satchel? And does it stand up by itself. I don’t like bags that flop over when I set them down in the coffeeshop.
