It’s almost time to pack up those boots and hit the salon for a pedicure…spring is officially on its way! (Unless of course you live in the Midwest. In that case, you still have a few months left.)
Having grown up where winter lasts 6 months, I know that a new pair of sandals always kept me warm and excited for the upcoming spring season, so let’s take a look at some of the “must have” styles for 2011!
The Classic Thong
It’s always fun to see what new styles come out every year, but you can never go wrong with the classics. A solid, thong sandal like the Aerosoles Branchlet sandal is great when you need to throw something on in a hurry. These simple slides also help tone down those “loud” and colorful summer outfits. If you’ve got embellishment on your clothes…it’s probably best not to have embellishment on your shoes!
The Embellished Sandal
My “go-to” spring outfit is a simple pair of capris and a solid color tank top or t-shirt. It’s quick, easy and classic. I do, however, like to spice it up from time to time, and the best way to do that is to throw on a pair of embellished sandals. These can be anything with beading, a medallion or some type of broach on the top, like the Matisse Sunflower sandal. Add a necklace and bracelets, and you can easily take this outfit from day to night!
The Heavily Embellished Sandal
When I’m really in the mood to “WOW”, I dress up a simple sundress with some heavily embellished sandals. These become the focal point of my ensemble, as they certainly are a conversation piece. Because of the intense detail, heavily embellished sandals like the Matisse Dali sandal are easy to match with just about any color in your closet! Remember what I said above, however. If you have embellishment on your shoes, you probably shouldn’t have too much detail on your clothes.
The Gladiator
If you’re looking for a trendier look, try a pair of gladiator sandals. This style typically comes in neutral colors, like the Matisse Romaine sandal, so you don’t have to worry about overdoing it with your outfit. These will update any classic outfit, just be sure to watch out for those tan lines!
The Wedge
As our long pants turn into skirts and shorts, it always helps to have a little lift for those legs! Wedges are the perfect silhouette to give you that lean look without coming off as too dressy. Like an embellished sandal, this silhouette is also great for day to night. The heel gives you a dressier look, but the cork or straw material in the wedge, like the Matisse Zion sandal gives it a casual feel.
You really can’t go wrong with any of these styles for spring. Just remember to wear the opposite of your sandals on top. If the shoe is embellished, keep it simple on top. If the top is embellished, keep it simple on your feet. And be sure to get out and have some fun in the sun!
