The Perfect Royal Wedding Shoe: The Naot Pleasure Pump

Women's Naot Pleasure Mary Jane Pump

I was up late, laaaaate last night and got sucked in by the nuptial proceedings in London: It only seemed appropriate, since I watched Prince William’s mum tying the knot at St. Paul’s nearly three decades ago.

Once upon a time, I lived in London. A temporary office job required that I pass by Westminster Abbey daily, and I’d often wander in and visit Poets’ Corner, wistfully murmuring to the tomb of Geoffrey Chaucer “Someday I, too, will write wonderful things…about shoes!” (Trivia factoid: the name “Chaucer,” from French, means “maker of shoes.” No joke. Look it up.)

Utterly mesmerized by the sea of elaborate and ridiculous women’s hats I observed floating by, it occurred to me that I don’t own headwear—much less a dress—that would be appropriate. So I started thinking, what shoes would I have worn to the Royal Wedding had my invitation not gotten lost in the mail…again?

That long, slow shuffle into the Abbey would’ve required support and comfort. Sure, even six months pregnant Victoria Beckham was no doubt wearing a pair of four-inch Louboutins (and probably Elton John was, too), but after careful consideration I’d have gone with the Naot Pleasure mary jane pump.

Perfect for multi-season wear, not only do these shoes have a closed toe—requisite for such an occasion—but they have a removable bow for a bit of girly flounce, a medium, stable heel for lift, a supportive metal shank and the all-important Naot comfort footbed. Plus they come in a lot of terrific colors! In yo’ face, Posh Spice!

So, do tell: What shoes would you have picked for the Royal Wedding?
