Some people might know me as “Molly, from ABC’s The Bachelor” or “The girl he didn’t choose, but later took back… after dumping his first choice on national TV”. However, to those who are close to me, I am just an easy-going, Midwestern girl who likes to cook, shop, and have a good time.
I have lived in the Midwest my entire life, born and raised on meat and potatoes. When I am stressed, I cook myself a big comfort meal. When I am feeling tired, I take a nap. When I am having a “fat” day, I snack on Baked Lays rather than Nacho Cheese Doritos. I have never been the type of person who consistently exercises, nor do I watch what I eat, but a recent change in my life has gotten me to start thinking about how I take care of my body.
About a month ago, I moved out of the Midwest, the place I have always called home, and relocated to the Pacific Northwest. Let me tell you, this place seems foreign compared to where I come from. Instead of a McDonald’s or Wendy’s on every corner, there are Sushi, Teriyaki, and Thai restaurants everywhere. Rather than heading to Qdoba for lunch, people go on group hikes. Out here, people seem to have so much more energy and motivation to live and be healthy! Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love the Midwest, but let’s be honest… us Midwesterners tend to bulk up and hibernate six months out of the year, due to the outrageously cold winters.
Over the past year, I have been living a chaotic double life. Between working my day job and fulfilling the obligations of being on a reality TV show, I have found myself worn out and tired all of the time. I am not able to change the fact that I have to go to work every day, and I enjoy participating in the opportunities that come our way due to being on The Bachelor, so how do I keep up with everything and feel good at the same time?
After a lifetime of laziness and poor meal choices, I have decided to join the movement here in the Northwest, and get healthy! I want to be able to run more than a mile without stopping to walk a few steps while no cars are around (I know some of you do this). I want to enjoy choosing the Whole Foods salad bar for lunch rather than a quick run to Taco Bell. Finally, I want to be able to stay awake for more than twelve hours without being absolutely exhausted. I know none of this can happen overnight, but all I can say is that I am going to try my very hardest. Maybe I can help motivate someone else along the way, too.
All I know is that I want to feel good and enjoy every moment of my life, but the only way I am going to get to that point is if I put down the bowl of Doritos, turn off the re-runs of The Real Housewives of Atlanta (guilty pleasure), and hit the pavement!
Wish me luck!

Yeah Molls! Go get ‘em!
