It’s the most wonderful time of year! No…I’m not talking about the holiday season. I’m talking about BOOT season!
Boot season is the one thing that helps me wash away my “end of summer” blues, because it allows us to spice up our wardrobes by hauling out all of that footwear we’ve been hiding for the past 6 months!
This fall, we’re seeing a lot of updated silhouettes, from the ankle bootie to the over-the-knee boot, but let’s start out with the classics.
The Flat Boot
This is my go-to silhouette for fall. Why? Because it is the easiest way to get comfort and style…all in the same look! Throw on a pair of UGG® Australia boots (like the UGG Bailey Button Triplet with some leggings and a tunic for a casual look). Or dress it up with some motorcycle boots (my favorite is the Rockport Lily Welt Riding Boot) and a blazer. Either way, your feet are sure to feel great at the end of the day, and you didn’t have to sacrifice a bit of style to get that comfort.
The Foldover Boot
If you’re looking for an update to your classic high-heeled black boot…the foldover boot is definitely it!
This is simply a cosmetic update to the typical high-heeled silhouette, and we’re seeing it everywhere this year. Because it is a surface update, you want to be sure the boots are visible in whatever you are wearing it with. I love to pull the Guess Uproar over some skinny jeans, leggings, or even wear them solo with a skirt or dress.
Moving on to some newer trends…
The Ankle Bootie
I’ve talked to a lot of people who are loving this trend, but they just have no idea how to wear them. I agree…this silhouette can definitely be a tricky one. My favorite way to wear them is with tights or leggings, because it’s no fuss. Skinny jeans can be a little tougher. You want to be sure that the length of your jeans sits just right, so that they don’t bunch up too much over the rim of the boots. Whether it’s with a cocktail dress or a vintage T-shirt and skinny jeans, the ankle bootie (check out the Steve Madden Dessertt) is the perfect way to update a classic look!
The Over-the-Knee Boot
Finally, the sexy but intimidating…over-the-knee boot…
When I think of over-the-knee boots, a Victoria’s Secret model or Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman come to mind. When this trend first began to emerge, I thought only a super model with long skinny legs could wear this look. But these boots actually aren’t as difficult to pull off as one might think. Just like the classic boots, over-the-knee boots can be dressed up or dressed down.
For example, a flat heeled over-the-knee boot like the Franco Sarto Tripod tones down the silhouette so that it doesn’t look so “Pretty Woman”…if you know what I mean. A high-heeled OTK boot has a little more edge and sexiness to it. Either way, I love pairing them with leggings and a blazer, or even solo with a sweater dress.
Whatever style you choose, boots are the must-have accessory for the season!

Molly – I loved all your “Resolve to Run” posts. I borrowed your idea in my own blog too (jonandmelie.com). My hubby and I have been trying to get back into running lately and we are signed up to run the 12K’s of Christmas in Kirkland next weekend. Are you and Jason still running these days? We’re hoping to run a half marathon sometime in 2011. Maybe the Rock and Roll one in the summer.
