  • I’ll continue doing the little things that conserve water, energy, resources, and of course, money. One tip: When lathering up in the shower, turn the water off.

—By Jeremy C on March 29, 2010 at 11:54 am
  • Don’t let the water run while brushing your teeth.

—By Sarah Cary on March 29, 2010 at 8:46 pm
  • I’ll enjoy a day without using the furnace or air conditioner (April is a good month to do this in Nebraska!), I’ll be exercising while throwing a frizbee to our dog, hanging our wet clean clothes on our clothesline to dry, and starting to get our garden ready to plant vegetables the first week of May. I’ll let the sun make sun tea for a refreshing drink and I’ll finish my day sitting outside sharing my tea and visiting with our neighbors, NOT watching TV! These are ways to have a good day using much less electricity!

—By Sandy N on March 30, 2010 at 6:17 am
  • I always reuse plastic bags even though they are very thin, I double them up and use them as trash can liners for the bath rooms and other small cans. I also shred papers and use for landfill. I have saved newspapers so on that day I will have accumulated enough to take to my mother’s. My mother will reuse the papers for liners in her “puppy cage”.

—By Faith Bartlett on March 30, 2010 at 7:38 am
  • I will continue the use of my reuseable grocery bags I love them and to conserve water.

  • We’re planning to convert some of our plain, grassy space in the backyard into a new raised bed for tomatoes and other veggies. Hopefully, by just buying seeds and planting out own starts, we won’t have to purchase vegetables wrapped in plastic and shipped hundreds of miles to get to our dinnertable.

—By LS on March 30, 2010 at 10:50 am
  • It is actually my nieces birthday that day.
She loves that she and I will plant seeds for herbs and tomatoesso that we will know where our food is coming from. She is also big on recycling.
Around my house my husband and I conserve on things such as we do the clothes washing at night as well run the dishwasher later in the evening and we also make sure that the washer is full.

—By Maureen on March 30, 2010 at 12:52 pm
  • I’ve learned that making small changes one at a time is the best way to form good habits. In past years I substituted resale shops for department stores, cut back on water usage, stopped drinking bottled water, exchanged paper and plastic bags for reusable totes and stopped buying drinks in paper and plastic cups. We frequent the public library instead of buying books for leisure reading and a couple of days a week, we plate up our leftovers for an elderly gentleman down the road. Now our weekly menu is based on what we find at the farmers’ market and our consumption of free range, minimally processed meat has increased to help our local farmers. To celebrate Earth Day I want to clean our home with safe, natural products such as vinegar, lemon juice, baking soda and steam from tap water instead of chemical cleaning products.

—By Donna T. on March 30, 2010 at 4:22 pm
  • I will be doing many things but one I would like to mention, because many people forget is…cutting apart the plastic rings that bind together 6-12 packs of bottled drinks! These plastic rings, if thrown away whole can injure or kill our presious wildlife!

  • I don’t do ONE THING…I strive to do as many low energy & resource acts I can & my latest addition is to take my own containers to my favorite take-away restaurants. I’m now “known” as that customer who orders with the “no styro, no plastics”. Some tell me I’M THE ONLY ONE. It saves them money & it means I’m not adding to our landfills. Other customers look a little puzzled as servers treat me with a little added attention. I feel good & they seem to also. Did you know that styrofoam is banded in some Asian cities? I like being a hero in this vendor’s establishment. I think they tend to give me extra food & sometimes the cook makes a design with the veggies! Makes me smile : )
