  • My fave holiday tradition is baking Christmas cookies with my family. We put on some fun Christmas music and enjoy the time together. The end result is quite yummy. Thanks!

  • I absolutely love this backpack….My favorite holiday tradition is letting the kids open one gift on Christmas Eve. Our family all gathers together at my mom’s house on Christmas Eve. We cook, play games, watch Christmas Vacation…put Santa’s Christmas cookies out and let the kids open one gift from the parents on Christmas Eve. In the morning the kids wake to a living room filled with presents…the half eaten Santa cookies…and a letter from Santa. It’s the best!

  • My favorite tradition involves Christmas Jazz on an online radio station. Strange, huh? Invariably, the station will play Vince Gurauldi Trio, made famous by the Charlie Brown Christmas special, and INSTANTLY I am taken back to a spot on the floor, in front of an old 1972 T.V. set. Wearing my jammies and a handmade flowered robe my great aunt made, I’m watching Snoopy skate his lazy open-pawed lay-back on the ice.
I saw the same Christmas special last night as a matter of fact. In front of the flat screen it was three boys, their momma, Vince Gurauldi Trio and Snoopy.

  • My Favorite tradition,
Each year with my children we make a new ornament for the tree. This tradition now is continued with my grandchildren. This year we are making glitter pinecones, they are 3 & 4 yrs old. As they get older, I make more complicated designs such a seed bead ornaments. Every year I look forward to this special time. It is wonderful to see the ornaments on the tree and remember the moments ith my family.

  • My favorite tradition is the annual reindeer sightseeing tour. On Christmas eve, after the festivities at my in-laws, we drive home the “long way” we see some of the best decorated houses/yards we can find and we listen to Christmas music, and everyone searches for a flying red light in the sky. Each year we offer various “prizes” for the person that finds it first….maybe they get to open the first gift Christmas morning, or they get to arrange a plate of cookies to leave out for the man in red. Of course the prize is not what makes it great, with the craziness of the season, and all the different family gatherings we go to, this is all ours. Just my husband, my kids and myself. It’s our Christmas time together. Our very own tradition.

  • With growing children, I find that one tradition that has remained true in our family is the thankful jar. Starting on Thanksgiving, each member gets a paper at dinner and has to write what they are grateful – no name. We put it in the jar. We do this every family dinner (which has been hard with working teens) and then on Christmas Eve, we read them out loud, It reminds us of what is really important and keeps our focus on more important things then who got what.

    —By bjack143 on December 16, 2011 at 8:02 am

  • Every year, under the Christmas tree, I put one gift to me from my husband that I have chosen, purchased, and wrapped myself. He knows nothing about it until I open it and always (even after all these years) looks completely baffled while our kids think he’s amazing for finding something that I absolutely love. I think part of the spirit of giving at Christmas is making other people look good!

  • My FAVORITE holiday tradition is setting up “santa” gifts under the tree on Christmas Eve with my husband and anticipating our child waking to see it all. It’s the exact same excitement I felt when i was a child (only better)anticipating christmas morning. I LOVE CHRISTMAS!!

—By Heather on December 16, 2011 at 10:06 am
  • Every Christmas Eve my 3 children set out a plate of carrots, cookies & milk for Santa and then spread out their pillows and blankets to sleep in the same room as the tree in order to catch Santa during the night. We have never minded this tradition that they started because of how soundly they sleep.
Our oldest, at the age of 14 two years ago wanted the pleasure of being Santa and helping to put the presents under the tree, during which he announced that it was too many presents and that we spoil him and his two younger sisters too much. But the best part of his helping, is that after the presents are placed, he then sits on the couch by a sister’s feet and eats the snacks that were left for Santa – this has become my favorite tradition of Christmas.

We call at 6 p.m. here,(E.S.T.)which is Midnight in Italy, the beginning of Christmas. When I was little we passed the phone around. Later, we had the speakerphone button so everyone could chime in. This year we are going to connect with Skype for the 1st time,so we can all see each other’s faces! The same Tradition just keeps getting better with time, technology, & LOVE!!!

  • My grandson is now 6. When he was 9 mos. old, I put him in a stroller, and walked around the neighborhoods at night to look at all the Christmas displays. The next year he walked. I think it took about an hour to go around our cul-de-sac. This year, we have walked at least 2 miles, on different courses, and had some delightful discussions about why Santa absolutely couldn’t use a helicopter (as we have seen in some displays:) What joy. I know it won’t last much longer. But what a treasure it is for now.

Going to church to celebrate and being with family at this special time of year puts everything into perspective….Life is very short and precious….Enjoy everything and everyone around you.
