The best Christmas gift I ever got was when my parents gave me a trip to New York City for New Years Eve. I got to spend New Years in the most incredible city with some of my best friends. We stood in Times Square all night, went ice skating in Central Park and saw all the sights! It’s one of my fondest memories and the best gift ever!!

My earliest memory of Christmas was when I was 3 or 4 years old. Something woke me during the night, when my sister and I went out to the living room, there were toys everywhere! That year I got a huge teddy bear and a child sized chair. Not so much the gift itself, but the wonder of it all! We just knew Santa woke us when he left the house! Left me with the memory for over 50 years now!

I’m the youngest of 4 siblings and am now 51, though don’t tell Santa! I remember that everyone received a watch on their 10-year-birthday. Being the youngest, I had to wait the longest for my watch, but that also meant that the watch I received had more buttons on it. In 8 years, the ability to make watches had greatly improved. I still wish I hadn’t had to wait, but my watch could do more than my siblings. I could sure new a watch as technology has GREATLY improved over the last 41 years! I honestly cannot say that I have yet received my favorite Holiday gift. Sad? Not really. As a mom, the giving of the gifts is my absolute favorite part. We spend much of the day in pajamas, my daughter makes french toast, the husband makes mimosas and we usually end up playing some crazy dance game on the game console. I think that may be the best gift – time and memories. But a watch would be awesome!

My ultimate favorite and most memorable holiday gift was my parents gift to us kids- a road trip across Honduras. We traced every story our parents has told us from the Mayan ruins in Copan to Villa de Los Angeles where iconic paintings were created. Of course the holidays there are amplified to the nth degree with food, family gatherings and fire works. It was a very special trip.

I remember how badly I wanted my first real bike. I asked and asked and asked…santa of course. Christmas morning we opened all our gifts and no bike. My dad told me there was something waiting for me in my room. I walked in and saw the thumbtack board I’d wanted. My parents were laughing so hard at my excitement over an office supply. I had walked right past my brand new bike. Didn’t see it sitting right in the middle of my room.

The best holiday gift I’ve ever received was cash! LOL! There’s a deeper meaning to it though. I was leaving for California on Christmas Day in 2009 so my family was really sad that I’ll be leaving for good. Our eldest sister walked up to me and gave me $500 and said that if there’s anything I would need, that if my husband-to-be at that time and I ever encounter any difficulties given the recession, I can just call her anytime and she will immediately send me money. It was the best gift not because it was money but because I realized then how much my sister loves me.

Sometimes the best “gifts” are the ones that aren’t bought, or wrapped, they are miracles. After complications with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, having peach sized cysts, being told I’d probably never get pregnant; My husband & I went to the Dr in late December 2006 to plan for surgery. When the ultrasound showed that not only had all the cysts miraculously disappeared, but I was pregnant, it took my breath away. Most exciting Christmas ever!

“What is the best holiday gift you’ve ever received?”
Humm! That is truly a difficult question to answer. I am tempted to say that it was the gift my favorite guy gave me, but I love everything he always gives me. He makes it seems like Christmas is every day of the year! (Gotta love him!)
My daughter knows I love hearts and shoes as well. Well a few years ago she gave me a beautiful white gold link charm bracelet w/ a heart charm on the clasp end of it. On the heart there was a small diamond in the center, which happens to be my birth stone (since I was born in April). I also received a colorful UGG suede sandals from her. THAT was my best gift. (Sounds like more than one gift, except that the bracelet was in its box, inside of the box of UGG sandals… So, it was a DOUBLE WHAMMY, but all wrapped up in ONE gift. Loved it!

The best Christmas gift ever? Last year I came home from work one day and noticed a big shiny red bow on a stack of wood near my fireplace. Someone had been in my house! That’s when I noticed out the window another big red shiney bow on the wood shed. My kids and thier kids (4 & 6 years old) Spent the day clearing a downed tree for an ill uncle. They then cut, split, transported and stacked the wood at my house! Uncle Chris got the gift of the tree removal & I got the gift of all that wood, stacked and at the ready. What a blessing to each of us! The thoughtfulness and hard work that went into that gift was fabulous!

The best Christmas present I ever received was this pedal-powered kettcar when I was a kid. It was like a go-cart without the power, but it was the coolest thing I’d ever played with. I remember taking turns with my little sisters pedaling up and down the sidewalk seeing how fast we could go. It was a blast.

The best gift I got was more time with my Mom. She was in the ICU about to be induced into a coma to try to save her life. On Christmas she perked up a bit and didn’t have to be induced and she made a full recovery! I also got an iPod Touch that year (right after they debuted) and that was my favourite gift given to me by someone else.

She was so real to me and I loved her so much. And after Christmas mom would use old clothes and scraps and make her new dresses. I think my mom enjoyed Emma as much as I did.

The best gift I ever received was from my husband when we had only been married for a few years. We didn’t have much money and he gave me some sheets with a diamond ring wrapped up inside. I was so disapointed when I saw the sheets, but oh so happy when I found the ring. We have now been married for 56 years and I still love the ring.

She was actually due on Christmas day, but she was late.. and was born on NEW YEARS DAY!~ either way, she was born on the holiday and was not only my best holiday present, but also my best birthday present as my birthday was 3 days later!..and in those days you stayed in the hospital for close to a week. So I celebrated both in the hospital that year!

Two years ago this past Oct., I had surgery to remove my thyroid. Not really a big deal except that the second biopsy showed a bb sized cancer. That tiny encapsulated piece of me wouldn’t have shown up for years…and probably it would have been too late. Between the surgery, the anxiety and the effort it took to keep positive for my children, I was emotionally and physically exhausted. That Christmas, my husband gave me a massage package that enabled me to have a massage a month. THAT, but far, has been my most favorite gift to date.

The best Christmas present I ever received was probably the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, which I got the first year it came out in North America (1991). I played so many good games on that system, particularly – Super Mario World, F-Zero (got that for Christmas in 1992), and The Legend of Zelda – A Link to the Past (got for my birthday in 1993 I believe). Later on I enjoyed such games as Super Mario Kart, Donkey Kong Country 1, 2, & 3, and Chrono Trigger. My system is still in working condition in my dad’s house, but I bought my own system on eBay for my wife and I.

My aunt and uncle gave me a gold necklace with a heart charm on it for Christmas when I was about 14.

They were people who actually paid attention to you when you talked.

I never asked them for a necklace but they knew I wanted one, that it would make me happy and it did. I love the necklace but that isn’t what made me happy it was the fact that they cared about me and wanting me to be happy.

Best Christmas ever was when my parents told us that things were tight financially and couldn’t really afford much for Christmas. We got a few toys and retired to our playroom. Then we heard “hey kids- looks like we forgot to unwrap something!”.. We ran upstairs to find brand new shiny bikes!! Best Christmas ever!
