It’s day seven of the 12 Days of Giving and the chill in the air tells us that it is definitely time for toasty footwear in the Pacific Northwest, and probably in your neighborhood as well. Or at least we’re hoping so, because we have some great styles from Sorel to give away today. Sorel has been making some of the finest boots and shoes in the world since 1908, and the craftsmanship shows in every pair they make. They’re versatile, durable and designed to deliver comfort and warmth in horrible weather conditions. Okay, maybe horrible is too strong of a word to use around all you winter lovers out there; perhaps yucky is better. But Sorels can handle the horrible, just FYI.

The giveaway today features two great styles from which to choose. The first is the women’s Sorel Tivoli™; it’s the perfect urban shoe and offers the warmth and protection of a snow boot. It has a cozy fleece lining, is waterproof and absolutely boot-tastic, which is now a word.

Sorel tivoli Boots

The men’s Sorel 1964 Premium™ T CVS is proof that “impervious” is an awesome word to be able to use in inclement winter. This classic boot may look all sweet and retro but it is packed with the latest materials and manufacturing techniques, so you can ignore winter—wait, I meant to say “so you can give winter the cold shoulder…” In any case, with a pair of Sorel 1964 Premiums on your feet you may find yourself singing let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

Sorel 1964 CVS

I also make what I call Heirloom Christmas tags, which are so gorgeous. I give away hand-crafted jewelry, jewelry boxes, art blocks for children (which are wild, imaginative, and have special words of hope on them), and I give special glass globes filled with natural feathers I collect, for friends to hang around the house year-round. This is one of adults’ favorites. My favorite thing about Christmas is giving!

  • We love giving trays of home baked treats. My husband is an excellent baker. Each tray is personalized to the recipients. The flavors are always divine and his decorating techniques makes the treats look like works of art(so we are told). The whole family pitches in to help pull it all together. Our friends and extended family always ask for recipes but, say it does not taste the same when they try to duplicate them. It is a labor of love and it shows our friends and family how special they are to us. If I win, I will be wearing my new Sorel boots while delivering these delicious treats! Unless, you would like to give a pair to my husband. I would be okay with that too! :)

This year, for example, my sister in law is getting a handmade pewter narwhal ornament. And if you don’t know what a narwhal is, you aren’t watching “Elf” enough.

—By Russell on December 9, 2011 at 11:21 am
  • I try to pay attention to people and give thoughtful gifts.

Even if you give someone a gift card it is better to get them one for a store/restaurant that they love than just some random place.

My favorite gift to give though is homemade fudge. As a child one of things I looked forward to every Christmas was the tin of homemade fudge my Great Aunt would give as a gift to our family each year. I got the recipe a few years back from her daughter right before she (the daughter) passed away. She was so happy that I was interested in getting a few of her mom’s recipes- to carry on the tradition.

We then package them up and give a little bag to everyone on our list. They also go to all the teachers, coaches, bus drivers, mail men, etc. They are a joy to make, because it’s our family tradition and it’s such a fun thing to do together. AND the recipients are always so very grateful. People just LOVE Them!

  • My favorite gift, is giving someone something that they REALLY want. There’s nothing like getting someone something you know they “hinted” at, or asked for. Giving them that happiness during the holidays, is the best gift for ME!
I know what it feels like to get nothing for Christmas, or to get something you didn’t want, but the gifter “thought” it would be good for you to have. A gift should make the recipient HAPPY, so anyway I can do that & get what they want, I will.

  • Every year I handcraft a gift to give. This year I made decorative glass plates with different types of fabrics. Previous years it’s been knit scarfs, jewelry, and baked goods. There’s nothing finer than spending time crafting something unique and customized for the recipient. To me that’s special and caring.

  • My favorite gift to give is the one that I’m totally sure the recipient will love and is not expecting. For example, my nephew loves books on tape or CD and there was one he was looking for last year and couldn’t find. I was able to find it and give it to him for Christmas. He was completely thrilled. Love to make others happy. :)
