With that first whiff of spring comes one desire: to wear sandals. The time is coming! Flowers are budding, skies are clearing, and temperatures are definitely heating up. So, today, I’m taking you on a tour of some of my favorite men’s sandals,  women’s sandals and kids’ sandals for girls and boys.

Casual Sandals

Dress Sandals

After a thorough search for women’s high heel sandals, I found one that’s as great-feeling as it is great-looking, with patent leather and a chic link detail, plus a comfort footbed.

Leather sandals are a great dressed-up option for men. Men’s leather sandals are available in flip-flops and slides for the easy-going guy, but when it’s time to really clean up, I think a leather fisherman sandal is the way to go.

Warm weather is on the way, so it’s time to talk about one of my favorite things: sandals. I’ve gathered a list of my Top 20 favorites. We’ll be sharing them here at the blog in four different categories over several days.  All of my picks are comfortable sandals—and stylish, too. What do you love most about sandal season?

Today’s category is great picnic sandals. Perfect with skirts and summer dresses, these sandals are just the thing for days enjoying downtime at the park or at a backyard party. What you see here is the classic Dansko Professional clog, an icon of comfort footwear. Being me, I chose to spotlight a fun zebra-print, but I’m sure you’ve noticed solid colors on the feet of nurses, chefs, teachers, and other people who like to feel energized despite long hours of standing.

Can you name the Dansko collection that the Professional belongs to? Its classic look shouldn’t deceive you, though: Dansko has been making structural improvements and just this year introduced a three-part sock lining to sandals in the Stapled Clogs collection, for better barefoot grip.

Wait. Did I say sandals in the stapled clog collection? Why, yes. I did. That’s right. Stapled Clogs aren’t only clogs. Check out the Dansko Moriah sandal and the Dansko Melina sandal, breezy choices with all the comfort and support of the Dansko Professional Clog.

Sausalito:

The Dansko Sausalito collection offers the same contoured footbed and awesome support as the Stapled Clogs, but with a lighter weight and more flexible construction, plus a cushioned footbed.

My favorite member of the Sausalito collection is the Dansko Sissy sandal, pictured above. It hits the marks for both comfort and style. I especially love that adjustable instep strap; practically any woman can wear this sandal comfortably.

Capri:

The Capri collection is all about sandals, including the Dansko Ceres, pictured above. This collection takes light weight to a new level and focuses on soft nappa leather and crinkled patent leather—two materials that dress up or down quite easily.

You’ll find low heels on styles in the Capri collection, but they still carry that certified Dansko comfort, and offer elastic goring and adjustable straps with buckles for fit.

Think winter boots need to be bulky, stiff and not-so-stylish? Banish the thought that you can’t be warm, dry and cute at the same time. Now, waterproof boots and insulated boots come in adorable styles that I can’t wait to wear. The hottest brand making awesome-looking boots with tons of winter function (Waterproof! Warm) is Sorel.

The sweet boot above, with the snake-print foot, tweed top, and bright pink laces? It’s the Sorel Tivoli™ boot. If you like the look of it, you might want to snag a pair ASAP, because I have a feeling it’s going to be very popular this season. Oprah included it in O: The Oprah Magazine as a great all-weather boot. Slipper season is upon us, and so is gift-giving season. For me, these two things go hand-in-hand. Here’s a quick guide to the best slippers—from leather slippers to slipper socks—for the different women in your life. After churning out adorable styles for a few years—including the rope-trim leather clogs I wore throughout high school—Simple realized that the shoe industry owed dues to Mother Nature, and started paying immediately. The company switched from calling themselves “a nice little shoe company” to “a nice little shoe company getting in touch with its inner hippie.”

Sidewalk Surfers have a relaxed fabric upper with elastic goring for comfort and grommets for breathability, but the sole is pure sandal. Kork-Ease Ava sandal.

Thing One:
Retro appeal.

The original Kork-Ease platform cork sandal came out in 1953 as a comfort sandal that quietly kept a few customers happy until the early seventies, when the sandal skyrocketed to iconic status. When I picture a groovy woman in a mini-dress and oversized round sunglasses, I see this sandal on her foot. As updated versions of time-tested fashions return to style, so do the Kork-Ease Ava sandal and her sisters. They’ve been popping up in fashion mags for the last few years, and I love that they’re available in fresh material combos, like leather and suede.


Thing Two:
They feel good.

Did somebody say “comfort sandal”?
