Review: Merrell Pace Glove

Merrell Pace Glove

Less is more.

When it comes to running, many runners are pursuing the minimalistic approach.  Minimalist runners opt for the least amount of shoe they can safely run, working towards strengthening their feet and improving running gait in order to tolerate less shoe. The Running Times website has a great article on the movement.

Enter the Merrell Pace Glove.

After running two marathons and four half marathons, I was constantly searching for the perfect running shoe that protects my legs and joints.  But, what about my feet? Well, it seems they are weak; too many miles, too soon.  So, while my legs got stronger, my feet remained the same because I failed to strengthen them.

Review: Brooks Defyance 4

Brroks Defyance

I had the pleasure of getting fitted for running shoes by the Brooks gurus while I was at the Rock-N-Roll Las Vegas expo. I had been experiencing some foot pain, so I was anticipating the need for a stability shoe or something of that nature.

The Brooks employees there were exceptionally knowledgeable, helpful and informative. One consultant spent a lot of time explaining my running patterns while performing a videotaped gait analysis. The Hood to Coast Relay

Hood to Coast Relay

The Hood to Coast Relay is a charity relay that starts at the Timberline Lodge near the top of Oregon’s highest peak, Mt. Hood, and winds its way 200 miles down to the sandy beaches of Seaside, Oregon. More than 1,000 teams, each with eight to 12 runners, compete for the best times across 36 legs. It’s a grueling, overnight event followed by the biggest beach party on the west coast. It’s an awesome experience, but before you go, you’ll want some help with the preparation.

So, just how does one begin to prepare for the Hood to Coast Relay? Efficient packing is the key, and a bit of resourcefulness along the way helps, too. Each relay team is allowed team vans and van space is a hugely prized commodity, so you cannot adopt the “kitchen sink philosophy” when packing or you may have some resentful teammates.

You just know. It’s the vision you’ve been dreaming of. The feeling you have patiently waited for. The mutual attraction.

I’m not talking about your wedding dress or even your soul mate, but your running shoes. The intimate relationship you and your feet have developed with a colorful combination of synthetic materials.
