Great comfort, but no waterproof As for comfort these shoes are great. Light, durable, breathable, one can wear them both in hot summer and winter (I did), feet feel fine. But when it comes to water protection these are not better than usual sneakers (or even worse). And that was a major disappointment as I specifically asked in sport store to recommend me something I can walk in the rain without getting my feet wet.

Mid top running shoe I bought these boots after owning another pair of Merrell's, a midtop moab waterproof series, which felt like slippers, but these (FST) have firmer soles like those of a running shoe. My previous pair of Merrell's also stood up to almost three years of different manual labor jobs- chimney sweeping in new england winters, stone-masonry and an adventurous lifestyle. I use these current FST boots to ride a bicycle to and from school, along with weekend camping/hiking trips. Unfortunately I have owned them for less than a month and they are already leaving my socks damp daily due to our frequent rains in Oregon. These are probably great shoes for someone looking for a trail ready running shoe but they don't match the quality of a standard Merrell boot. Pic of 'waterproof' FST's on my boot dryer Older Merrells (moab), still good for ugly jobs, on the ground

Definately not waterproof Bought these for early season bow hunting. Shoes were fairly comfortable out of the box. Light weight. Traction is good. First time in the rain they leaked! Not pleased.

Ripped too fast The shoe rubbed on the back of my heels horribly, but that went away fairly quickly. The problem was once it went away, the sole started ripping apart and then the shoes began to rip on the inside where my toes bend. I had yet to put 100 miles on them before the rip was large and the shoes lost their waterproof abilities and now at about 110 miles, one shoe is ripped to the last thin lining. Some positives were great grip by the sole and the shoe was light.

Great for all weather and long hikes Wore these several times already and in varying weather conditions. Grip was always excellent whether the rocks were wet or dry, as long as there was no algae on the rocks. My feet stayed dry in wet weather and the boots dry quickly when my feet get sweaty. Overall, I recommend these and like them a lot.
